The college football offseason is in full swing. Rankings, projections, and hot takes are flying around. For Cam Newton, he's never been afraid to be honest or share his opinion for all to hear regarding anything related to football, college or professional.

His latest discussion included some comments regarding the situation that Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning is currently in. Newton feels like there are similarities to his path to becoming the starter that mimicked Manning's current means to the nod for Steve Sarkisian's offense.

Cam Newton compares his past to Arch Manning's present

Newton believes that Manning made the correct choice in going somewhere he felt like can get him into the NFL.

For Manning, he has been behind Quinn Ewers for two seasons now. Ewers is now in the NFL, handing the reigns to Manning for the Longhorns. He took some in-game reps last year on ten occasions – after just two in his first collegiate season. He's waited his turn, and now, he is a projected NFL Draft talent and potential Heisman Trophy candidate.

For Newton, he sat behind Tim Tebow to begin his college career. Of course, he broke onto the CFB scene with the Auburn Tigers, but his career wasn't pushed or pressured right out of the gates after high school. The quarterback got time to learn more and develop, similar to Manning.

“I’ve always felt like I was more talented than Tim Tebow, but I needed Tim Tebow to show me what I lacked,” Newton said on his podcast, 4th&1. “Tim Tebow is an unbelievable leader, verbally and by action.

Arch Manning would be a fool if he has not learned anything from Quinn Ewers, how he prepared, how he lead his team, and just how he handled and managed the expectations for being a quarterback at a university like Texas.”

Clearly, Manning took this sort of advice from Newton before even actually hearing it.

We will see if the young QB with legendary NFL bloodlines can turn into a college football superstar the same way that Newton did when he got his awaited opportunity in the SEC.

Manning has never been a raucous sort of college athlete. You hardly hear from him, unless it involves football or his teammates – honestly. He has stayed under the radar to a certain degree, at least somewhat when you consider his family tree of football talent.

Arch has taken a quiet, deliberate approach to his college career so far, downplaying his hype as the No. 1 QB recruit in the country by sitting out not one, but two seasons in Austin. Newton believes Arch's strategy is a smart move, guided by the experienced, veteran voices around him. — Michael Shapiro, Chron.com

The Longhorns are often selected as a College Football Playoff contender this season. If they reach that peak, Manning will have a lot to do with it.
