It’s been a while since the Philadelphia Eagles had a dependable No. 3 wide receiver, but veteran Jahan Dotson might finally fill that role.

While Dotson came up short last fall, early offseason reports suggest he’s turning heads, earning praise from both coaches and media.

"Jahan Dotson has had a very impressive offseason in the practices open to the media The No. 3 WR spot will never put up huge numbers in this offense but he seems way more prepared this year to take advantage of the chances he does get," 94WIP's Eliot Shorr-Parks wrote on X/Twitter following Philly's mandatory minicamp.

The Eagles originally acquired Dotson from the Washington Commanders in a trade finalized on August 22, 2024. Philadelphia received Dotson and a 2025 fifth-round pick, while sending a 2025 third-round pick and two seventh-round picks to Washington.

Dotson was a 16th overall pick by the Commanders in the 2022 NFL Draft after a standout career at Penn State. Despite being taken in Round 1, he never quite broke through in Washington’s offense, making it easier for them to move on.

Over two seasons with the Commanders, he totaled 84 catches for 1,041 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Expectations were high when he landed in Philadelphia, but his production took a hit in a run-heavy offense built around Saquon Barkley.

He wrapped up the 2024 regular season with just 19 receptions for 216 yards and no touchdowns. However, he showed flashes in the postseason, adding three catches for 53 yards and a touchdown during the Eagles' playoff run.

The Eagles chose not to pick up Jahan Dotson’s fifth-year option in April, setting him up to hit free agency next March. That decision may have lit a fire under him, giving Dotson extra motivation to prove Philly wrong.

Of course, Dotson will still have to compete with second-year receiver Ainias Smith and Terrace Marshall Jr. throughout the remainder of the offseason.
