Dan Lanning continues to relentlessly pursue building the best secondary in college football, and he might just be on his way to doing it. With the latest prediction, a year after adding three elite recruits to the defensive backfield, Lanning is poised to stack dominant classes that will fill the Oregon depth chart with a ton of talent.
Steve Wiltfong of On3 has placed a prediction for the Ducks to land the No. 2 cornerback in the country and the 18th overall recruit in the 2026 recruiting class, Davon Benjamin.
The 2025 recruiting class saw Lanning bring in elite recruits in Trey McNutt, Na'eem Offord, Brandon Finney, and Dorian Brew. Nothing is official yet with Benjamin, but stacking the defensive back room in back-to-back years with some of the very best in the country is a strong showing for Lanning.
Recruiting continues to be a success for Oregon since moving to the Big Ten. Yes, NIL certainly plays a role, as it does for all the major programs, but the move to a big time conference where the players will have the opportunity to compete against the best and on the national stage, combined with the facilities and atmosphere of Autzen Stadium, is making Oregon one of the premier destinations in all of college football.
Credit has to go to Lanning — he and his team are giving the necessary effort and attention to the best recruits in the country, and year after year, it's starting to pay off. Oregon is doing everything the right way to put themselves in a position to compete for National Championships.
