Earlier this week, Colorado head coach Deion Sanders discussed an alternative idea he wished he could pull off in lieu of a traditional spring game. Sanders proposed playing against a different team as part of a spring game instead of his own players.

Immediately, Syracuse's head coach, Fran Brown, sprung to Twitter to tell Sanders that he and his team would travel to follow through with his idea.

This new idea comes following a wave of top FBS programs electing to cancel or change their spring game plans. The Oklahoma Sooners have already decided to alter the spring game to more of a fan engagement event than a traditional game.

However, the idea of two teams squaring off in the spring game is a fascinating one and has prompted some discussions about who fans and analysts would like to see play each other.

One such idea was proposed by On3 that makes so much sense and would deliver plenty of content and buzz: The USC Trojans travel to Norman to scrimmage against the Oklahoma Sooners.

"What could be better than this? You have two programs in transition who are entering the season with big questions about their head coaches. Then, of course, you’d have the highly-anticipated return of former Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley. Newsflash: He wouldn’t be so welcome. Not only would you have that drama to unpack, you’d also have the opportunity to get a look at first-year Oklahoma quarterback starter John Mateer, who many are anticipating could be the catalyst for the turnaround in Norman."

Lincoln Riley returning to Norman after he told players he wasn't leaving, only to turn around and sneak out in the middle of the night to fly to Los Angeles and take the USC job, would be an amazing storyline.

With both coaches under plenty of pressure to deliver results in 2025, pressure and anticipation around these rosters have been mounting, further adding to the drama of the whole situation.

It's a fun idea in theory and one that would definitely transform the very nature of spring football.

One alternative team I would propose Oklahoma scrimmages against: Clemson. I think the dynamic between Dabo and Venables would be awesome, given the history of those two, and it would be a tough, top-notch competition between two physical and talented teams.
