Former Tennessee Vols wide receiver Squirrel White is fitting in well with his new program, the Florida State Seminoles, after leaving Rocky Top following the 2024 season.

White, a former three-star recruit from Pinson, AL, spent the first three seasons of his career at Tennessee before transferring to Florida State earlier this offseason.

The 5-foot-10 wide receiver had the best season of his career in 2023 when he caught 67 passes for 803 yards and two touchdowns. White's numbers weren't nearly as good in 2024 — 34 receptions for 381 yards and two touchdowns — but that's mostly because he was battling injuries throughout the season.

Florida State offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn was asked about White on Monday while speaking to reporters and he quickly pointed out that the former Vol is off to a "great start" with the Seminoles.

"He's a playmaker," said Malzahn, who is entering his first season as the offensive coordinator at FSU. "He's got real speed. He's got experience. And I think that's important — especially for a new coordinator coming in, to have some guys with experience that's been successful. He's one of those guys. He's off to a great start, too. He's a veteran guy. You can tell he's got leadership ability. He's got a great spirit about him. Like I said, he's a playmaker — we just gotta find ways to get him the ball."

White was a popular player for the Volunteers, and Tennessee will certainly miss his speed and his experience, but his departure will open the door for some of UT's young wide receivers (such as former four-star wide receiver Braylon Staley) to step into key roles in 2025.

The former Tennessee wide receiver isn't the only former Vol that will be playing in Tallahassee this fall. Former Vols linebacker Elijah Herring (who spent the 2024 season at Memphis) and defensive lineman Jayson Jenkins also transferred to Florida State this offseason.
