Los Angeles Chargers Pro Bowl defensive back Derwin James thinks a quarterback-needy team in the NFC should work out a trade for New England Patriots quarterback Joe Milton.
During an appearance this week on the NFL Network, James, a first round selection in the 2018 NFL Draft, suggested that the New York Giants should "hit up" the Patriots and try to make a deal for Milton.
"I feel like they (Giants) can hit the Patriots up and try to get a guy like Joe Milton or somebody that's already in the league proven," said James.
"I don't want to just compare this to Madden, but I actually seen him (Milton) in real life, I think he's got a lot of attributes and stuff," added James. "But I also put him on my team in Madden. But I just feel like being a young quarterback in this league, he hasn't got his opportunity yet. He has all the attributes — big arm, can move, can throw, and I feel like he just needs a chance. You give him a chance to show what he can do, you never know what you got there."
There's been plenty of speculation this offseason that the Patriots could trade Milton after the former Tennessee Vols standout passed for 241 yards and accounted for two total touchdowns in New England's win against the Buffalo Bills in the regular season finale (Milton's only start of the 2024 season for the Patriots).
New England's decision to sign quarterback Josh Dobbs to a free agent deal last week increased the trade speculation around Milton.
The Giants are a team that's looking for a quarterback this offseason, but the assumption is that they'll select a quarterback in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft (or New York could sign Aaron Rodgers….depending on what the future Hall of Fame quarterback decides in the coming days/weeks).
A report from Tony Grossi this week indicated that the New England is expected to ask for a third round draft pick in exchange for Milton.
It seems unlikely that New York would be willing to give up that much in a trade for Milton.
