The Oklahoma Sooners got their quarterback for 2025. John Mateer, the former Washington State quarterback, came over to the Sooners, following his former offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle.
And that was honestly the best thing that could have happened for the Sooners this offseason, who are coming off of one of their worst offensive seasons, maybe ever. Getting a guy who is looked at as one of the best in the country, and putting him in a system he literally just ran and put up crazy numbers in, is key. And, not to mention, they have put some good receivers and weapons around him.
But, they still have to be prepared for life after Mateer. They have Jett Niu, a talented three-star freshman, as well as guys like Jaden O'Neal coming in next season. But, it never hurts to want more, and the Sooners want more.
They have been wanting Bowe Bentley for a while, and now, he has narrowed down his top three schools, and Oklahoma is on it. They are closing the gap on Bentley.
Oklahoma Sooners could get QB Bowe Bentley
Bowe Bentley is a quarterback from Celina, Texas, and a top prospect in the 2026 recruiting class. At 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, he's rated a four-star recruit, and he’s the No. 5 quarterback and No. 111 overall player in his class, according to On3.
Bentley has narrowed his college choices to Georgia, LSU, and Oklahoma, and he’s also set official visits for June: Georgia (June 6-8), Oklahoma (June 13-15), and LSU (June 20-22). He’s visited these schools before and has over 20 offers from places like Texas Tech, Ohio State, and Florida State. His strong play, including at the 2025 Navy All-American Bowl, has made him a big target for recruiters, especially Venables and the Sooners.
His final decision between Georgia, LSU, and Oklahoma will be a big one to watch as he heads into his senior year, but it's clear Oklahoma is closing the gap. And, they are prioritizing him. During his visit, he is the only recruit scheduled to be there, whereas usually there is more than one recruit on campus. So, you know the Sooners are going to go all out for their guy.
