The draft is just over three weeks away and the Cleveland Browns have a huge decision to make at No. 2 overall.
After not having a draft pick in the first round for the last three years due to the Deshaun Watson trade, Cleveland has to hit on this pick early. Whether the Browns use that selection on a quarterback or want to take the best player available on their board is yet to be seen.
There has been some talk regarding the Browns trading up to No. 1 overall with the Tennessee Titans. Browns GM Andrew Berry revealed that it isn’t likely to happen at the NFL Annual Meeting in Florida.
If the Browns were to trade up to No. 1, it would be for the consensus top quarterback, Miami’s Cam Ward. Ward is expected to go to the Titans unless they’re blown away by a trade proposal. The cost of moving up could force the Browns to give up a future first-round selection. Cleveland could be hesitant to do that following how the Watson trade worked out.
If the Browns did plan to trade up, Berry wasn’t going to show his hand and he would say exactly what he did. However, he is likely telling the truth because it doesn’t make much sense for the Browns to move up unless they’re fully sold on Ward. Ward is a solid prospect but not one you sell the farm for.
Cleveland could take the route of drafting Penn State DE Abdul Carter, Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders, or Colorado WR/CB Travis Hunter. Taking Hunter or Carter would be the Browns signaling that they were the top player on their board overall.
The draft will begin on April 24 and we don’t have too much longer to wait to see what the Browns are going to decide. Don’t expect that to be a move up to No. 1 overall.
