Raiders miss out on trading for a quarterback they really wanted, but it's for a respectful reason that makes sense

Not long ago, the Las Vegas Raiders traded for a quarterback, getting them out of the purgatory they were stuck in. Geno Smith, the former Seattle Seahawks quarterback, is now a Raider, and he's one of the best QBs the Raiders have had in a long time.
But that doesn't change their approach in the draft. Pete Carroll has let everyone know they still could very well draft a quarterback in the draft. Now, whether that's in the first round, for a guy like Shedeur Sanders, or whether that's in the seventh round, for a guy like Quinn Ewers, we just don't know yet.
What we do know is that the Raiders were very close to not having to waste a draft pick on another quarterback. Of course, I say waste, but it wouldn't have been a waste — they need a backup plan. But, you don't really want to have to use a draft pick on a QB when you already have one.
So, they tried trading for one, again. The Raiders hit up one of their AFC foes, one that just blocked them on a potentially huge signing a few weeks ago, and Las Vegas sent an offer.
When the New England Patriots signed Josh Dobbs, everyone knew that second-year quarterback Joe Milton was going to be available, and believe it or not, the Raiders were interested. The New York Giants, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Philadelphia Eagles were also interested.
And, according to Jordan Schultz, one of those teams had a really good offer on the table, which could have been Las Vegas for all we know, but the Patriots chose to send him to where Milton wanted to go — the Dallas Cowboys.
The Patriots took a lesser deal with the Cowboys to honor Milton's wishes. And, it makes sense. Think about all the Dak Prescott drama there has been, so much so that it feels like he may not even be there two years from now. And Milton is the perfect backup to Prescott, too.
So, the Raiders just barely missed out on getting yet another quarterback.
