Brandon Beane has made it clear — game wreckers don't come available very often. With the NFL Scouting Combine about to get started and free agency just around the corner, there's a new name on the trade market that the Buffalo Bills should be aggressively pursuing. The Washington Commanders have given star defensive tackle Jonathan Allen permission to seek a trade.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Washing plans to "do right by the player" and Allen's camp is involved in helping him land at the right spot, either via trade or free agency.

Typically, "doing right" by a veteran player related to them being sent to a team that has a chance of competing. It's surprising to hear that out of Washington, considering their massive turnaround this last season with rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels saw them make it to the NFC Championship Game. But if Allen is looking for greener pastures, Buffalo would be a direct fit.

Allen has one year at $15 million left on his contract, so any team that would trade for him would be taking on the risk of it being a one-year rental. Allen is entering his age-30 season.

There has been plenty of talk since Cleveland's Myles Garrett requested a trade about how the Bills should be interested. I said it as well. Comparing the two situations, Garrett would almost certainly be more expensive to acquire via trade, and would be making roughly $20 million each of the next two years before becoming a free agent at age 32. Allen, at the same age as Garrett, is $5 million less for 2025.

While an edge rusher would be amazing, an interior defensive lineman capable of wrecking opposing offensive lines, like Allen does, would certainly be an instant impact. Allen only played eight games last season, but was healthy for their playoff run.

In the last four season, Allen ranks top-10 among all defensive tackles in total tackles, solo tackles, sacks, pressures, and tackles for loss. He is a bonafide difference maker on the interior. This is a phone call Brandon Beane needs to make, if he hasn't already.
