Las Vegas Raiders general manager John Spytek lays down the hammer on the reality of the Maxx Crosby – contract situation
The Las Vegas Raiders have so many things to check off the list 2025 offseason. I think we all know that addressing the quarterback position is at or near the top of the list. And, fixing the offense as a whole is on the list as well. But, let's not forget one of the more […]
The Las Vegas Raiders have so many things to check off the list 2025 offseason. I think we all know that addressing the quarterback position is at or near the top of the list. And, fixing the offense as a whole is on the list as well.
But, let's not forget one of the more important things — getting Maxx Crosby, this era's version of Mr. Raider, the money that he wants. And, he wants more guaranteed money, so that shouldn't be too hard to do. But, at the same time, the Raiders know that Crosby is only getting older. That doesn't mean he can't get better, but you just truly never know.
However, during the first day of media availability for the 2025 NFL Combine, new general manager John Spytek was asked about a timeline for the deal. And, his answer gives a dose of reality mixed with something the fans will want to hear.
"I don't want to make any predictions or speak too much about that. I just would say I have an immense amount of respect for Maxx [Crosby] number one, the way he plays the game, the passion he plays with. This is what Pete [Carroll] and I have talked about," Spytek said on Tuesday. "I mean, we want that to be what a Raider looks like, and he's a great shining example of that, too. And he's also a really skilled and talented player on top of it too. So, I envision Maxx being a Raider for a long time here, and I think that's what he wants too. We'll go forward with that in mind."
That last part about him envisioning Crosby as a Raider for life is special and that's what fans want to hear. They want him as a Raider for life. But, as he said, he's not going to make any predictions, because they truly don't know. This tells me they maybe aren't as close to the deal as they thought they were.
But, that doesn't mean it won't get done, and it doesn't mean that they aren't close on a deal — it could happen tomorrow for all we know. But, that's certainly how it feels.
