There is a heavy debate in the 2025 NFL Draft world right now, and it centers around the quarterback position. With so many quarterback-needy teams picking near the top of the draft, these organizations are left to decide whether the options available are attractive enough to pass on some blue chip talent. That is what teams like the Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, and New York Giants must decide when evaluating Cam Ward (Miami) and Shedeur Sanders (Colorado).
When you talk to people around the NFL, there is a mix of those who prefer Ward or Sanders. For those who like Ward most, you are betting on the tools and upside. During the course of his career at Incarnate Word, Washington State, and Miami, he has thrown for 18,189 yards and 158 touchdown passes. Combine that improved play over the years with the tools, and there is a lot to love.
The Ward debate took on a new life of its own on Tuesday, and a new voice backed him up. This time, it came directly from Ward himself, who put out a loud warning to those teams that have a chance to draft him.
“OK, you’re either going to draft me or you’re not. If you don’t draft me, that’s your fault. You’ve got to remember you’re the same team that’s got to play me for the rest of my career, and I’ll remember that.”
The one thing that is hard to measure when evaluating quarterbacks is their competitiveness, and how they are wired. When you talk to those around Ward, his competitive nature is something that is talked about regularly. In a lot of ways, that temperament is what could sell him most. As Ward says, "he will remember that."
For better or for worse, Ward and Sanders are going to be connected at the hip for the majority of his career. Whether the Titans, Browns, or Giants opt to be the first team to select a quarterback, there is going to be heavy discourse about which quarterback was the correct decision.
