The Miami Dolphins are reportedly releasing veteran running back Raheem Mostert just two years after the former Purdue standout scored 21 touchdowns in one season.

While this is obviously unfortunate news for Mostert, it's a positive development for former Tennessee Vols running back Jaylen Wright.

Wright, a fourth round selection by the Dolphins in the 2024 NFL Draft, now has a clear path to being the No. 2 running back in Miami, behind De'Von Achane.

(Don't feel too bad for Mostert — he's set to turn 33 in April. He was in the bonus time portion of his career…and he could still land elsewhere).

Wright played in 15 games for the Dolphins last season, totaling 249 rushing yards on 68 attempts. He also caught three passes for eight yards.

The former Vol's best game as a rookie came in a win against the New England Patriots in early October when he rushed for 86 yards on 15 carries (6.6 yards per carry).

Mostert received 85 carries for the Dolphins last season while splitting time with Achane and Wright. With Mostert out of the picture, Wright could be in line for around 100 to 140 carries in Mike McDaniel's run-friendly offense.
