Rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy became the Chiefs' most trusted playmaker down the stretch of the 2024 season.
After an inconsistent start, Worthy caught 53 passes for 679 yards and six touchdowns throughout Kansas City's final 10 games (including the postseason).
He was the lone bright spot during the Chiefs 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, recording eight receptions for 157 yards and two touchdowns. Several ESPN analysts made various predictions of the 2025 NFL season on Friday. Among them was Jason Reid, who selected Worthy as his breakout player next year.
"Because of injuries at wideout (namely Rashee Rice), the Chiefs asked a lot of Worthy during his rookie season," Reid wrote. "But he delivered, and he'll have a sensational sophomore year."
Outside of Worthy, the Chiefs have a lot of question marks at the WR position as they proceed forward. DeAndre Hopkins, Hollywood Brown, and JuJu Smith-Schuster are set to become free agents, and Rice is coming off a torn LCL and is likely facing a suspension at some point next season.
K.C. will need Worthy to come up big again in 2025, and it's reasonable to believe that he will. As he progressed in 2024, Worthy showed that he is much more than just a speedy gadget player. He proved that he is a sharp route runner and can make tough, contested catches.
That doesn't mean he won't still perform versatile tasks, such as taking end-arounds or lining up in the backfield. Last season he ran the ball 20 times for 104 yards and three touchdowns. If the Chiefs can find some quality depth at WR this offseason, perhaps Worthy could get into the mix as a kick returner in 2025, something they weren't able to do with him last year.
