The Philadelphia Eagles are Super Bowl LIX champions, which is special and all, but for Ole Miss and A.J. Brown fans the game came with some incredible history-making moments too.
When the Eagles were already up by 17 points Jalen Hurts found A.J. Brown wide open on a crossing route, and like he so frequently does, Brown found the end zone. That score not only nearly put the game out of reach in the first half alone, but it also marked Brown's second career touchdown in a Super Bowl. But why was that so special for Ole Miss history?
No other player in Ole Miss Rebels history has scored multiple touchdowns in Super Bowl games. There have been 24 Super Bowls with at least one Ole Miss player participating. But besides A.J. Brown, only one other former Ole Miss player has ever even scored a single rushing or receiving touchdown in a Super Bowl. That player was wide receiver Mike Wallace, who caught a touchdown from Ben Roethlisberger for the Steelers in Super Bowl XLV.
A.J. Brown has already cemented himself as one of the greatest players to ever come out of Ole Miss as he's racked up over 7000 receiving yards and 49 touchdowns through his first six seasons in the NFL. Now that legacy becomes even more impressive as he continues to make Ole Miss history.
Only 15 different Ole Miss players have won a Super Bowl and A.J. Brown is one of them. He also becomes the sixth player in Ole Miss Rebels history to make it to multiple Super Bowls. Brown also now officially has the most total receiving yards accumulated in Super Bowls by Ole Miss Rebels in history with 139.
A.J. Brown continues to dominate, and at just age 27 still has plenty of time to keep piling up the records on behalf of Ole Miss. Let's hope there are many more years and touchdowns to come. Congrats, A.J. Brown. Ole Miss fans are still rooting for you.
