The debut of Ben Johnson's head coaching career with the Chicago Bears is set to close out Week 1 of the 2025 season on a national stage.
With the full release of the 2025 schedule coming later today, the league continues to strategically leak certain games to build the excitement, and Bears fans are going to love this latest leak.
The Chicago Bears will host the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football in the season-opener, a big divisional matchup to start the season for both sides.
This matchup will be Ben Johnson's first game as the Bears head coach going up against a stout defense led by Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores.
In his time as the Detroit Lions offensive coordinator going up against Flores' defense, the Lions went 4-0 against the Vikings and scored 30+ points in all five matchups. Simply put, Johnson has dominated one of the best defensive minds in the game.
Flores gave the Bears offense some issues in 2024. The first matchup at Soldier Field was a close one, decided by a game-winning field goal by Minnesota in overtime. In the second matchup, Flores swarmed quarterback Caleb Williams, resulting in a 30-12 blowout loss for Chicago.
On the other side of the ball, defensive coordinator Dennis Allen and the Bears' defense will be going up against quarterback J.J. McCarthy in his regular season debut. After suffering a preseason knee injury, the Vikings turned to Sam Darnold, who led the team on a Cinderella run to the postseason.
Now, it's finally McCarthy's time to run the franchise and we'll get the first good look at his potential against a revamped Bears' defense.
