The Washington Commanders had one of the best, if not the best, one-year turnarounds in the NFL.

After only winning four games in 2023, the team went 12-5 this season and is preparing for the first round of the playoffs this week.

A big part of that turnaround has been the excellent play of rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. Therefore, it is pivotal for the team to make his long-term health their main priority going forward. Their first-round selection in a new A to Z Sports mock draft does just that.

"The Commanders need to address multiple offensive line spots in this NFL Draft. Josh Simmons is still recovering from a knee injury, but he was emerging as one of the best offensive tackles in football prior to missing much of the 2024 season."

Improving their offensive line will be one of the biggest off-season goals for the Commanders. They gave up the fifth most sacks in the NFL this season with 50. The player credited with allowing the most was their left tackle, Brandon Coleman, who Pro Football Focus credited with giving up nine sacks in the regular season.

Ohio State's Josh Simmons' was rising up draft boards before suffering his knee injury. There's no certainty that he would be ready to play right away in 2025, but the Commanders could add a great talent in the back half of the first round. Simmons didn't allow a single sack or quarterback hit during his six games in 2024 and was only credited with giving up one hurry. Getting him to be the future LT blocking for Jayden Daniels would be a giant step in the right direction to fixing their offensive line.

Commanders selections in round 2 and round 3 of the mock draft

Round 2, Pick 54: Bradyn Swinson, Edge, LSU

"Bradyn Swinson posted a 19% pass rush pressure rate this past season as one of the best pure edge rushers in the nation. The Commanders are about 1.5 quality pass rushers deep and could use a specialist like Swinson who can set the edge in the run better than many give him credit for as well."

Round 3, Pick 79: Danny Stutsman, LB, Oklahoma

"The Commanders can't ride Bobby Wagner at linebacker forever. Stutsman is a throwback linebacker with the perfect blend of great leadership and modern day athleticism to thrive in today's NFL."
