According to On3, Tennessee is one several programs showing interest in South Dakota State running back Angel Johnson.
Auburn, Louisville, and Washington State are some other programs that are showing interest in Johnson.
Johnson, 5-foot-9/195 lbs from Viborg, SD, will be a redshirt senior in 2025.
The South Dakota native had a productive 2024 season, rushing for 646 yards and three touchdowns on 91 carries (7.1 yards per carry). Johnson also caught 14 passes for 176 yards and a touchdown.
Additionally, Johnson has experience as a kick returner. In 2024, he returned 14 kicks for 307 yards and one touchdown.
Tennessee is losing starting running back Dylan Sampson to the 2025 NFL Draft. And former four-star recruit Cam Seldon entered the NCAA transfer portal last month after spending the first two seasons of his collegiate career in Knoxville.
Peyton Lewis and DeSean Bishop are the Vols' top two returning running backs for the 2025 season. Lewis and Bishop played extremely well behind Sampson in 2024, but it appears the Vols are looking to add another playmaker to their running back room.
If the Tennessee Vols decide to make an offensive coaching staff change, there’s one name that makes obvious sense
We will see if a change is made
