The Oklahoma Sooners did not have a talent issue on defense last year, to say the least. In fact, the guys who didn't play could probably be starters on many teams around the country—that's how much depth they have. And that goes for the freshman last season, too.

The Sooners brought in a really good class last season, and for the ones that stayed, they will start to get their shot this year. And, the depth is going to be even crazier on the defensive side. Think about the defensive line the Sooners have put together for this year and will put out on the field — it may be the best one they have had in quite some time.

The depth behind those guys is what makes it so special. One guy who isn't getting talked about enough is redshirt freshman Danny Okoye. But, his teammates, one of them being one of the best pass rushers in the country, sees everything he is doing.

“Oh, he’s very different. Just athletic," R Mason Thomas said of Okoye. "The season takes a toll, but he knows how to recover. He knows how to do school and classroom. He’s all in the film room, too. So it’s a huge jump and I’m excited to see his huge jump."

Originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma, Okoye was a highly sought-after four-star recruit. His talent has been there since high school, he just needs a chance to show it on the field at the college level. He only played a few snaps in a few games this last year, but even then the Sooners liked what they saw.

However, at this stage, it's obvious that the guys above him are much better, for now. His development is important, very important, and he could be a star in the making based on some of the things we are hearing his teammates say.
