The Bills won handily against the Denver Broncos in the Wild Card Round of the NFL playoffs, but apparently the league thought some of their players got a little big carried away. The NFL, after reviewing last week's games, decided to hand down five fines to four different Bills players for actions on the field. They certainly didn't hold back.

Here are the fines:

  • Reid Ferguson: $11,255 for Unsportsmanlike Conduct (taunting)
  • Damar Hamlin: $6,083 for Unsportsmanlike Conduct (removal of the helmet)
  • Mack Hollins: $6,736 for Unsportsmanlike Conduct (taunting)
  • Mack Hollins: $11,255 for Unsportsmanlike Conduct (taunting)
  • Taron Johnson: $14,305 for Unnecessary Roughness (use of the helmet)

That is quite the list, including wide receiver Mack Hollins drawing two flags for his actions.

One of the fines that Hollins drew was for his actions late in the game, where he caught a crucial pass in the red zone against arguably the best cornerback in the league, Pat Surtain II. After the catch, he dramatically stepped over him, which drew a flag quickly.

It was an obvious flag, but sometimes the vibes require such actions.

Head coach Sean McDermott wants the team to play with more discipline, with dead ball penalties hurting the team's momentum on the field. I'm sure it was a point of conversation after the bevy of flags and fines that were handed down by the league.

One thing is for certain — the Bills can't afford these penalties going against teams like the Ravens and the Chiefs. You can't spot teams of that caliber extra yardage. Playing disciplined at this point in the season is more important than undisciplined taunting penalties, something that they'll need to clean up going forward.
