Four straight losses and the regression of Russell Wilson have many pondering if now is the time to make a QB change.
It seems Mike Tomlin won't rule that out, or at least the return of Fields to the game plan…
Justin Fields could be utilized against Ravens
"I'm certainly open to utilizing Justin," said Coach Tomlin on Monday. "He has an awesome skill set. We've done some of that in the past. We've done less of it in recent weeks, he experienced an injury, so a couple of weeks back, that slowed some of that. But certainly in an effort to win this game, I am open to any combination or combinations of the division of labor in an effort to do so, and so I'm certainly open to that as we develop plans this week, it did seem to spark the offense."
Pittsburgh's offense has gone anemic over the course of the last month. In the last four games, the team has failed to score over 17 points in every contest. That's a new low for a Steelers offense, as even during the Matt Canada tenure, the offense never hit rock bottom like that.
And sure, does Pittsburgh have a lot of help for Russell Wilson? Of course not. But in recent weeks, the two things that Wilson was signed to do have gone away. He was named starter because of his ability to read the field, and take care of the ball.
He's done anything but, completing a little over 50% of his passes against a Cincinnati Bengals defense that just fired their DC which was fresh off two prior games where he turned the ball over four times.
And to make matters worse, Wilson doesn't seem to want to worry about that, as he's on to the playoffs…
"I really…I don't really have a… I think what I want to say is…I don't really want to talk about the past just because I think, we've been in that," said Wilson after the Bengals game. "We've been in that for a little bit here. I think the best thing we can do is get ready for the playoffs. It's a new season. That's the only thing that really matters anymore at this point, right? The reality is, obviously us winning that game would have helped us in some form or fashion, but, at the end of the day, we got into the playoffs, everybody's got to beat everybody anyway, and that's got to be our focus right now."
We'll see who is taking snaps come Saturday.
