The Tennessee Vols have an open analyst position with the news that senior offensive analyst Max Thurmond is leaving Rocky Top for an on-field role at Jacksonville State.

Thurmond will serve as Jacksonville State's special teams coordinator/running backs coach under new head coach Charles Kelly (Kelly was the special teams coordinator at Tennessee in 2018 under then Vols head coach Jeremy Pruitt).

Thurmond, who played college football at Jacksonville State (Kelly was an assistant at JSU when Thurmond was a player), spent the last three seasons at Tennessee as an offensive analyst, joining Josh Heupel's staff ahead of the 2022 season.

The former Tennessee analyst was Jacksonville State's interim head coach for the final two games of the 2021 season. Thurmond went 1-1 in those two games.
