Bears owner George McCaskey may have just pushed Ben Johnson right back to the Lions in the dumbest way possible

Seriously, it's been out there for months now. The Chicago Bears have been linked to Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson for some time. It's always felt like something that Johnson probably wouldn't do but after Bears' owner George McCaskey's comments on Tuesday, he might as well have hung up on Johnson and texted him "Just stay in Detroit."

Seriously, it has not been hidden at all that this was the number one thing Johnson was looking for in a team looking to hire him as their head coach. It's the very reason this exact question was asked to McCaskey. The Bears owner essentially had a wide-open layup here and kicked it out to the center who's standing under the net on the other side of the court. He couldn't have had a more dumb response.

Johnson is scheduled to have a virtual interview with the Bears this week while the Lions are off for their bye week. At this point, he's still on the books for that. It wouldn't be a shock to see him bow out of that or maybe not take a second meeting with the Bears after they showed they clearly don't have any interest in organizational alignment.

Right now it seems like the Patriots are the one hump to get over in order to get Johnson back. The Patriots reportedly really like Mike Vrabel, so we'll see what happens.
