It might just be February, but it is never too early to talk about college football and preview the 2025 season. As always, there is some legitimate talent coming back all across college football. We are going to spend the offseason talking a ton about the known commodities, but as always, breakout stars are also going to show themselves.
There are ten potential offensive breakouts that have my full attention this offseason. This group could reshape the landscape of college football, and make for a lot of excitement heading into next fall.
QB Arch Manning (Texas)
We all saw the flashes of how good Manning was in 2024. Blessed with tremendous size at 6-4 and 220 pounds, Manning also has a really strong arm, outstanding athleticism, and one of the best deep balls in college football. He is an early favorite to be the best quarterback in the country.
QB Demond Williams Jr. (Washington)
Former Mississippi State quarterback Will Rogers was solid for the Huskies, but the team opted to turn toward the future with Williams down the stretch. In his two starts down the stretch, he threw for 575 yards and five touchdowns, while also adding another rushing score. While diminutive at 5-10, Williams is dynamic.
QB Dante Moore (Oregon)
Moore had a rough first season at UCLA in 2023, but he got a mental reset as a backup to Dillon Gabriel last season. The talent that Moore possesses is undeniable. On paper, Oregon feels like the perfect offense for him to operate.
RB Nate Frazier (Georgia)
Despite being a true freshman in 2024, Frazier carved out a big role for the Bulldogs offense. He ended up finishing the year with 671 rushing yards and eight touchdowns, while hauling in another 12 receptions for 85 yards. Frazier is a dynamic space weapon who is just tapping into how good he can be.
RB Jordan Marshall (Michigan)
With Kalel Mullings and Donovan Edwards both off to the NFL, it feels like Marshall could be ready for a much bigger role in 2025. We saw him take on that role against Alabama in the bowl game, rushing for 100 yards on 23 carries. Marshall is a strong athlete with good explosiveness to work with.
WR Mike Matthews (Tennessee)
Matthews was well thought of from a recruiting perspective, but walked into a crowded room in 2024 that included Bru McCoy, Dont'e Thornton, Squirrel White, and Chris Brazzell II. That limited Matthews to hauling in seven receptions for 90 yards and two touchdowns, which should increase a ton now that he is the guy in that room.
TE Luke Reynolds (Penn State)
Losing someone like Tyler Warren is massive for Penn State, but luckily they have recruited the tight end position at a tremendous level. Reynolds was a borderline five-star recruit in the 2024 recruiting class. You can bet his modest stat line as a true freshman (9 receptions, 111 yards, one touchdown) is going to balloon in 2025.
TE Carter Nelson (Nebraska)
Nelson is listed as a wide receiver by Nebraska, but he is a mismatch weapon as a flex tight end on the college level potentially. At 6-5 and 230 pounds, Nelson is one of the freakier athletes you will find in all of college football.
OT Charles Jagusah (Notre Dame)
Whether he plays left tackle or right guard, Jagusah has the talent to develop into one of the most dominant offensive linemen in all of college football. Players who are 6-7 and 328 pounds just shouldn't move as well as Jagusah does.
OT Caleb Lomu (Utah)
Lomu is probably a name not many people know, or at least haven't talked about. He originally came in as a very undersized offensive tackle but now he stands as a 6-6 and 304-pound athlete. If he continues to develop, we could be looking at a future first round draft selection.
