If there's one quarterback in NFL history that can relate the most with Josh Allen, it's Peyton Manning. With Allen vs Mahomes this generation's Manning vs Brady, the two are linked often.
Brady and Patriots were the biggest obstacle for Manning and the Colts (and eventually Broncos), as the Patriots dominated the playoffs and the Super Bowl, making nine appearances between 2002 and 2019 with the Patriots.
Manning spoke with Adam Schefter and was asked where Allen goes from here.
"look, I left Josh [Allen] a message the other day. I just told Josh how much I enjoy watching him play and how he competed his butt off against the Chiefs the other night," Manning started. "And look, I've been there. I have lived that world. There's always a little bit of a 'yeah, but' attached to the description or the article written about you, 'yeah, but' he had — and look, he's doing it. Lamar is doing it. They're owning it. They're not shying away from it. They are very honest in their desire that they would like to get the 'yeah, but' off and they'd like to win."
"And look, I lived it. And, I went to the Super Bowl in my ninth year. But I had lost to the Patriots, I think, just twice in the in the playoffs. At that point, finally beat [Brady] in the AFC Championship. It's not like Lamar and Josh are losing to bad teams. By the way, Adam, they seem to be losing to the team that goes on to win the Super Bowl. So, not that that softens the blow," Manning continued.
"You can go sit in the corner and sulk all offseason, or you can go keep working hard and try to take it one step further the next year. I think both those guys will do it. That was my advice to them. They're already doing it. But, I mean, you gotta own it, right? I mean, you accept all the nice things people say, and you accept the facts also. And I think they'll own it. I think they'll both do something about it, and I think good things will both come their way."
Manning's advice and his sentiments are exactly the tone of the situation. Allen and Jackson currently have the "yeah, but" on their shoulders since they can't get past Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.
They certainly won't sulk. They'll both get after it and gear back up to make a run next season, with the hopes of finally getting the job done and adding a Lombardi Trophy to their cabinets to prove that they can reach the highest achievement in the game. Unfortunately for them, they play in the same conference as a team that's on track to be one of the dominant dynasties in NFL history.
