Ohio State is going to send double-digit players to the draft in April who are fresh off a National Championship to end their college career.
The Buckeyes had a high number of players opt to return for one more year to capture exactly what they did. Now, the Buckeyes are going to have upwards of 15 players drafted into the NFL.
One player that opted to come back was RB TreVeyon Henderson and it was a successful year for him doing so.
“TreVeyon Henderson, man, he’s going early. Like, he might go first-round early. Speed, explosiveness, and you want to know what scouts freaking love about this guy? The blocking,” Todd McShay said recently.
I was talking to a director of personnel today, and he was like, “The blocking,’ and I was like, ‘Just like Zeke?’ He said, ‘Exactly. You know what you’re getting. You keep him on the field every single play. He doesn’t have to come off the field.’”
Henderson is a back that can catch a pass and be a blocker on third down. The former No. 1 running back coming into college in 2021 showed great unselfishness in 2024 by welcoming in Ole Miss transfer RB Quinshon Judkins with open arms. As a result, both running backs were able to clear 1,000 yards and win it all.
In 2021, Henderson had 1,248 rushing yards as a true freshman in 13 starts with the Buckeyes. Nagging injuries in 2022 only let Henderson play in eight games and he had 571 yards. The Buckeye star finished with double-digit touchdowns in three of his four seasons on the ground.
This is a deep running back class and most mock drafts have Henderson sitting in the second to third round in terms of where he will be drafted. However, the combine can change things and all it takes is one team to fall in love with a prospect.
Henderson may hear his name called earlier than some think and he has the college profile and tape to back being drafted as high as the first round. An NFL team is going to get a three-down back that has great explosiveness.
