The Kansas City Chiefs got the best possible postgame news after their win over the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game. Not only are they going to Super Bowl LIX, but they're going to the big game at full strength.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid confirmed that the team escaped the win over the Bills without suffering any major injuries.
That's already a marked difference from the team's Super Bowl appearance last season. If you'll recall, the injury situation for Kansas City was rather glum heading into Super Bowl LVIII against the San Francisco 49ers. On the offensive side of the ball, the team didn't know if they'd have LG Joe Thuney available to play after he suffered a pectoral injury in the AFC wild-card round against the Miami Dolphins. He didn't go on to play, with Nick Allegretti filling in for him in both the AFC Championship Game and the Super Bowl.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Chiefs had lost one of their most productive pass rushers, Charles Omenihu, to an untimely knee injury. He was slated to face his former team and play in his first-ever Super Bowl after a dominant season with eight sacks in just 13 combined games played.
Both Thuney and Omenihu are healthy for this one, and the rest of the roster is doing well, too. The team had some injury scares throughout the game, with Nikko Remigio, Justin Reid, and Nick Bolton all briefly leaving the field to get checked out for various ailments. However, it appears that no one suffered any significant injuries during Sunday night's physical battle with the Bills. Remember, the Chiefs were remarkably healthy coming into this game, with only four players appearing on the AFC title game injury report, all full participants in practice throughout the week.
On the other hand, the Eagles had two offensive linemen, Cam Jurgens and Landon Dickerson, who battled injuries to play in the NFC Championship Game vs. the Washington Commanders. They might be a little beat up, but two weeks should be more than enough time for the pair to get healthy. They also could have a veteran defensive lineman making a push to return from injured reserve to play in Super Bowl LIX.
President Donald Trump sends congratulatory message to Chiefs, spurns Eagles after conference championship wins
The Kansas City Chiefs have a fan in the White House. The Philadelphia Eagles, not so much.
