The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles have officially unveiled their uniforms for Super Bowl LIX, which might spell bad news for the birds.

When these two teams suit up at Caesar's Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, on Feb. 9, 2025, the Chiefs will officially wear their white away jerseys, while the Eagles will wear their midnight green home jersey.

If you're feeling a sense of déjà vu, that's because this is the same uniform matchup the two clubs wore during their previous meeting in Super Bowl LVII two years ago when Kansas City defeated Philadelphia 38-35 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Every year, the NFL rotates between the AFC and NFC in terms of teams who get to wear their home jersey. Last year, in Super Bowl LVIII, the Chiefs wore their red home jersey, while the San Francisco 49ers wore their white away uniforms. K.C. won that game 25-22.

Why does this uniform matchup spell bad news for the Eagles?

Not only did the Eagles lose their first matchup with the Chiefs wearing this same uniform, but history shows this uniform matchup favors the away team. In the 58 Super Bowls thus far, teams wearing white away jerseys have won 37 games (63.79%), while teams wearing home jerseys have won 21 games (36.21%).

During the Patrick Mahomes era, the Chiefs are 2-1 wearing their home uniforms, and their lone loss came in Super Bowl LV against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They're undefeated (1-0) wearing the white uniform, with that lone win coming against the Eagles. Historically, white uniforms haven't been as kind to Kansas City. They actually wore all-white uniforms in Super Bowl I against the Green Bay Packers and lost that game, which led to some superstition by former Chiefs HC Hank Stram that saw the combination retired for decades. They'd go on to win Super Bowl IV in the red home uniforms.

Obviously, this is all superstition based on observation. There's no science behind it. The Chiefs won a Super Bowl in their home jersey just last season. However, if I were Philly, I'd certainly feel a lot better if I were on the other side of this trend.
