The Philadelphia Eagles are headed to the NFC Championship game after taking down the Los Angeles Rams, 28-22, in Sunday afternoon snowy conditions at Lincoln Financial Field.
Philly will next host another very familiar face in the Washington Commanders on Sunday, Jan. 26 with the winner advancing to the Super Bowl.
The Eagles, who have remained healthy for much of the regular and post-season despite a few bumps in the road, have proven the one key Super Bowl trait they need in order to make it that far: roster depth.
Philly's roster depth was on full display as a handful of backups stepped up in big ways against the Rams.
For starters, the Eagles lost Nakobe Dean to a knee injury last week for the rest of their playoff run, leaving Orens Burks to fill some big shoes against the Rams, and he didn't disappoint.
Burks finished with six total tackles and a crucial pass defended against LA quarterback Matthew Stafford that came on 3rd-and-10 in the fourth quarter with Philly up 22-15 and under five minutes remaining.
Burks is now headed to the NFC Championship for the third year in a row and for the overall fifth time in his six-year NFL career. The only difference is that he will be taking on a bigger role as a starting linebacker.
Backup defensive end Mojo Ojomo and backup linebacker Jalyx Hunt also contributed to the win in big ways with both defenders recording a sack on Stafford.
Additionally, backup cornerback Isaiah Rodgers was immediately there for the Birds when Quinyon Mitchell left the game early with a shoulder injury.
Rodgers' biggest play of the game happened when he recovered a fumble forced by Jalen Carter in the fourth quarter.
Depth is an issue for many teams, which we all have seen in the playoffs. However, if there is one thing the Eagles have consistently proven all season long it's that their roster is stacked with playmakers, making them the ultimate Super Bowl contender.
