Kansas City Chiefs WR Mecole Hardman won't get a chance to repeat his Super Bowl LVIII heroics during the team's latest postseason run.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid confirmed on Wednesday that Hardman was unlikely to be activated to the 53-man roster from injured reserve. The decision effectively ends his season, as his 21-day practice window officially expired on Wednesday.

“We’ll probably put him (Mecole Hardman) back on IR there," Reid said.

With Hardman's practice window to elapsing, he will remain on injured reserve for the AFC Championship Game and won't be able to return should the team advance to Super Bowl LIX.

Hardman has been on injured reserve since Week 14 due to a knee injury that was suffered in practice and required surgery. He was designated to return to practice on Jan. 1, but he had only logged limited sessions since his return to the practice field. Injuries have increasingly caused problems for Hardman as his career has progressed, landing on injured reserve in each of the past three seasons.

Of course, Hardman is most recently remembered for catching the game-winning touchdown pass in Super Bowl LVIII against the San Francisco 49ers. He will finish the 2024 NFL season with just 12 receptions for 90 yards, along with five carries for 62 yards and a touchdown. The scrimmage yardage and general production are the second-lowest marks of his NFL career.

The 26-year-old is slated to become a free agent in the 2025 NFL offseason. A former second-round pick by the Chiefs in the 2019 NFL draft, Hardman has struggled to find success outside of Kansas City. He joined the New York Jets as a free agent in 2023, but he struggled to latch on and eventually returned to the Chiefs via trade.
