The Oregon Ducks continue their quest to add talent of the future through the transfer portal, this time addressing a crucial position of need in picking up a tight end in Louisville transfer Jamari Johnson.
Johnson is a much-needed addition, with Terrance Ferguson off to the NFL next spring and Patrick Herbert's time at Oregon coming to a close as well. That leaves the position group pretty bare outside Kenyon Sadiq.
Enter Johnson, who Oregon recruited him heavily in the 2023 cycle, ultimately coming in second to Louisville. That relationship has clearly paid off.
The Oregon offense loves to feature tight ends in a variety of ways, both as in-line blockers in the run game and as versatile pass-catchers. Johnson can do some of both, with his 6'5" 265 lbs frame offering plenty in the way of blocking. Importantly, Johnson has three years of eligibility remaining, meaning he isn't simply a short-term option to add to the room.
Johnson is the fourth transfer portal additions for the Ducks, all four of which are notable players that project to have meaningful roles for Oregon. After adding the top safety in the transfer portal in Dillon Thieneman and the No. 3 cornerback Theran Johnson, Dan Lanning and the Ducks bolstered their offensive line with Texas State offensive tackle Alex Harkey, who figures to take over the right tackle position after Ajani Cornelius heads to the NFL.
Oregon is off to a strong start in the transfer portal, which isn't a surprise. The common refrain from players is that Lanning and the Ducks are building something truly special, attracting plenty of talent to Eugene.
Oregon Ducks have a clear decision to make regarding the quarterback position and the transfer portal
It’s not much of a debate.
