The Tennessee Volunteers used to beat the Georgia Bulldogs on the regular.  Those days are long gone, but there's a chance to part like it's the 1990s again next fall for Tennessee and their fans in Knoxville.

Tennessee – along with the rest of the teams in the SEC – released their 2025 football schedule, and there was a very eyebrow-raising note early in the reveal.

The Vols and Bulldogs will play on September 13 in the SEC opener for both teams.

Tennessee and Georgia have been playing in early to mid-November going back to the 2020 season.  Before that, the teams played either the last weekend of September or more commonly the first or second one of October going back to 1995.  That was the range, and it was pretty firm.

However, the beauty of the new scheduling model is that some games have shifted around and have allowed fans to see matchups at different times of the year.  Case in point: Florida and Tennessee meet on November 22, which is the schools' first meeting in the month of November since 1955.  It's also something many UT fans have wanted given the way the Gators derailed many Tennessee seasons early in the year.

With that said, the Dawgs and Vols facing off on September 13 does give the Vols an opportunity to get a signature win early in the season before a raucous Neyland Stadium crowd.  Getting the Georgia monkey off their back could go a long way towards building momentum early towards what fans hope is a season that ends with a second straight trip to the College Football Playoff.
