Back in the day Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford was racking up yards in a short amount of time and we always thought that this was something that Stafford was the man at.
Stafford had 34,749 yards in his first nine seasons. That's the fifth most for a quarterback in that time span. Only Dan Marino, Matt Ryan, Peyton Manning, and Derek Carr had more.
Well, after Monday night's win over the 49ers, Jared Goff has now passed Stafford in the record books for the fifth most passing yards in his first nine seasons. Goff's 303 yards pushed him to 34,827 yards. Goff also moved to 37th all-time in passing yards in this game. He supplanted former Rams quarterback Jim Hart to do that.
This wasn't the only thing Goff did in the record books on Monday night though. This was his 42nd 300-yard game. That moved him to second most 300-yard games in the first nine years of a career. Only Patrick Mahomes has more with 48.
Goff's 26 completions also made him the fifth quarterback in NFL history to have at least 3,000 completions in his first nine seasons. The others are Peyton Manning, Matthew Stafford, Matt Ryan, and Derek Carr.
