The Kansas City Chiefs are getting battered in ways they can't afford in Week 16 against the Houston Texans.
First, the team lost ace special teamer and reserve linebacker Jack Cochrane to an ankle injury. Now, they've seemingly lost a starter on an already struggling and jumbled offensive line. The team announced that starting right tackle Jawaan Taylor was questionable to return to the game with an ankle injury.
Taylor did not end up with his teammates for the Chiefs' eighth possession. Instead, it was former starting LT Wanya Morris filling in for Taylor. The only other offensive lineman currently active who can play tackle is rookie Kingsley Suamataia.
Chiefs left guard Joe Thuney is already starting out of position at left tackle due to the injury to D.J. Humphries. They've got Mike Caliendo at left guard, and now the offensive line combination is even more jumbled with Morris at right tackle. Considering the fact that Patrick Mahomes is battling through a high ankle sprain in order to play this game, you want as few changes on the offensive line as possible.
Taylor has been on the injury report with knee injuries over the last several weeks. The team even limited his practice time in their indoor practice facility due to the harsh turf. They've not commented on exactly what he's fighting through, but it's been clear that he's not 100%.
The biggest issue here is that the Chiefs have such a short turnaround time to play their next game. Taylor has just three days to get himself healthy and ready to play on Christmas Day against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 17. That's not a lot of time for rehab and recovery, whether the injury is minor or severe.
