A lot of people would love to forget the Chicago Bears' loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 14, especially some of the defensive players for Chicago.
Unfortunately, on Saturday, the league brought the loss back up and made it sting even more for one of the Bears' veteran pass rushers.
Darrell Taylor was hit with a hefty fine of $16,883 for roughing the passer that included a blow to the head/neck of 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy.
The play occurred during the start of the fourth quarter in last week's game. On the play, Purdy stepped up in the pocket and was wrapped up low from behind by Bears' defensive tackle Chris Williams and then was essentially close-lined from the front by Taylor.
Purdy was still able to get the ball off to tight end Eric Saubert and Taylor was called for a roughing the passer penalty that gave the 49ers an automatic first down. After taking the hit from Taylor, Purdy had to leave the game for one play before returning.
After the game, Purdy made sure to shout out the 49ers fans in the home crowd for the cheers he received coming back onto the field after taking the scary hit.
“It was just a weird hit,” Purdy said via The Athletic's Matt Barrows. “My body was in an awkward position. I’ve never been in a situation like that, so I was sort of in shock. I felt some stuff within my body, I let myself cool down. That’s why I went out for a play, and I was making sure I was being good about it. My body was good. Hearing them sort of have my back, that was pretty cool, man.”
This is the third time this season the league cracked down on Taylor with a major fine, and rightfully so. In Week 8, Taylor was fined a total of $23,634 for two separate unnecessary roughness violations against the Washington Commanders.
Here's the list of all the fines the league has laid down on various Bears players this season.
