The Kansas City Chiefs still await the return of their prize of the 2024 NFL free agency period, WR Marquise "Hollywood" Brown. According to an NFL insider, that return could be coming much sooner than anticipated.
Brown practiced for the first time this Friday after having missed the first fourteen weeks of the regular season due to a sternoclavicular joint injury suffered in Week 1 of the preseason. According to NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport, the Chiefs were impressed with what they saw from Brown during practice, so impressed that there's a real chance that Brown could play in Week 16's tilt with the Houston Texans.
"We talked a lot about Hollywood Brown on the show, so much so you would think that he actually has played for the Chiefs, but he hasn't, not yet," Rapoport said on NFL GameDay Morning. "But that is coming. Hollywood Brown officially was cleared by his doctor. Spent Thursday in Colorado this week to receive that final clearance after SC joint surgery. He practiced on Friday, and from my understanding, he was so quick and so impressive in practice on Friday that there is a possibility, a real possibility, that Hollywood Brown makes his Chiefs debut, not in week 17 or 18, but this coming week."
The Chiefs could play for the right to rest their starters on Christmas Day in the Week 16 game against the Texans, depending on the outcome of the Week 15 game against the Browns, as well as games against the Pittsburgh Steelers and Buffalo Bills. Adding any bit of offensive firepower to that game would be a big deal for Kansas City.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid's comments after practice on Friday helped create anticipation for Brown's return.
"Yeah, he practiced today," Reid said. "Did a nice job. He won't play this week, for sure, but it's nice having him back out there and going. He got a lot of good work in today. You can tell he's been, he's been working, and the conditioning part wasn't a problem. So, like I said, he took quite a few reps."
Brown, 26, has recorded 313 receptions for 3,644 receiving yards and 28 touchdowns, averaging 11.6 yards per reception during his five-year NFL career. This offseason, he developed a strong chemistry with QB Patrick Mahomes, especially on deep passing plays.
