Jarrett Guarantano is one of the most under-appreciated players in Tennessee Vols history.
Guarantano spent five seasons on Rocky Top during what was a tumultuous period for the program. The former Vols quarterback never truly had a chance to shine in Knoxville, as he dealt with coaching changes, multiple offensive coordinators and quarterbacks coaches, and overall program instability during the Butch Jones and Jeremy Pruitt eras.
The New Jersey native had some tough moments at Tennessee, but there were some bright spots, too.
Guarantano, who was one of the toughest players to wear the orange and white (he played through a broken hand at one point), led the Vols to a big road win against Auburn in 2018. And he was part of an important six game winning streak in 2019, which included victories over South Carolina, Kentucky, Missouri, Vanderbilt, and a memorable come-from-behind win against Indiana in the Gator Bowl.
JG, as he was often known during his time at Tennessee, spent his final season of eligibility at Washington State in 2021.
Former Tennessee QB Jarrett Guarantano shares his thoughts on the current Vols football team
Guarantano tweeted this week that he loves Tennessee and he wants to be "more involved" with the program moving forward.
After sending tweet, Guarantano shared his thoughts on the 2024 Vols:
1. I love this team.
2. Heupel is the man.
3. Nico has everything you want in a QB1 from leadership, the locker room relationships, and on field ability.
4. The Defense is lights out!
5. DSampson is an absolute baller!
6. We have what it takes.
Guarantano deserves to be embraced and celebrated by Vols fans. In a time when players are frequently fleeing adversity, Guarantano showed elite mental and physical toughness by truly giving his all for Tennessee for five seasons during a time when it wasn't necessarily "easy" to be a Vol.
Just because the final record wasn't always pretty during Guarantano's time on Rocky Top doesn't make him any less of a Vol for Life.
