It doesn't look like the Georgia Bulldogs will be getting senior wide receiver Colbie Young back in their lineup in time for playoffs following the latest update on his October arrest.
According to multiple reports, Young chose not to appear in-person for the court hearing on Tuesday, Dec. 10, and instead waived his formal arraignment and entered a not-guilty plea.
That means the charges have not been dropped and the case is still ongoing.
Young's next court day is not set until May. However, his attorney, Kim T. Stephens, filed a demand for a speedy trial in order to push the date up to Jan. 6.
Young was arrested Oct. 8 on battery and assault charges after his ex-girlfriend called the cops when the two got into a heated argument. About one month later, the alleged victim called the police report from that night "slanted" and asked that any statements attributed to her saying Young attempted to cause injury to her be "retracted.”
Following the initial arrest, Young was suspended "indefinitely" from the team until his case was resolved but was cleared by the University and returned to practice at the end of November.
Young, a senior transfer from Miami, played in just five games for Georgia this season but made a large impact while logging 11 catches for 149 yards and two touchdowns.
For now, Young won't be suiting up for Georgia's first playoff game on Jan 1. at the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, but if the Bulldogs make it to the CFB National Championship on Jan. 20, then that could be a different story.
