This Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles marks the start of a brutal three game stretch for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Three games in 10 days against the Eagles, Baltimore Ravens and of course, the Christmas Day game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
But for Coach Tomlin, he’s practicing the adage "be where you’re feet are."
Coach Tomlin Focusing on the here and now
"I have a seven day cycle this week, and so I'm not going to make the simple complex,” said Tomlin when asked about what’s coming in the near future. “We got a task this week. We got a job to do. We got a finite amount of time and materials and talent and manpower, as do they and so with that in mind, we're going to prepare and focus our energies on winning this game. There are so many variables that could affect the preparation process on the other side of this game, the attrition component and so forth, that is fruitless and almost a waste the time to get beyond the template component. Certainly, I have a calendar and a template, but that does not have my time or attention like the Philadelphia Eagles."
The upcoming stretch of games is going to show everyone just how good the Steelers are. If they can come away with one or two wins, it’s time to take them serious as a Super Bowl contender.
Should they win all three, especially without WR George Pickens, it will be time to think about them potentially earning the number one overall seed in the AFC playoff picture.
But if they drop all three, questions will start to arise about just how far this team can go in the playoffs.
So while Coach Tomlin might have his blinders on and tunnel vision mode activated, it’s the right approach down the final month of the season.
