On3's Chad Simmons and Steve Wiltfong predicted on Tuesday that the Tennessee Vols will swipe a commit from a College Football Playoff contender.
Simmons and Wiltfong think that 2025 three-star cornerback Timothy Merritt will flip his commitment from Miami to Tennessee when the early signing period gets underway this week.
Merritt has been committed to Miami since early June.
Merritt, 6-foot-2/180 lbs from Birmingham, AL, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 44 cornerback in the nation and the No. 22 player in the state of Alabama.
The three-star recruit took an official visit to Tennessee during the summer. Merritt returned to Knoxville this season for the Vols' win against Alabama in October.
Flipping Merritt is especially important for Tennessee because Simmons and Wiltfong also predicted on Tuesday that Vols four-star cornerback commit Onis Konanbanny will flip his commitment to Florida.
Konanbanny is rated as the No. 31 cornerback in the nation.
Welcome to December in college football, where coaching changes, playoff rankings, conference championships, the early signing period, and the transfer portal have combined to make it the craziest month of the year for the sport.
