The Tennessee Vols flipped a key three-star recruit from the Miami Hurricanes on the first day of the early signing period.

2025 three-star cornerback Timothy Merritt had been committed to Miami since June, but he flipped to Tennessee on Wednesday.

The Alabama native announced his decision at a commitment ceremony where he had hats on the table representing Miami, Tennessee, and Oregon.

Merritt initially went to put the Miami hat on before saying "f— this" and throwing the Hurricanes hat in favor of a Tennessee hat.

The Vols have been on the other side of a few moments like that over the years. This time, though, it's Tennessee that was left smiling after a recruit threw a hat across the room.

Merritt, 6-foot-2/180 lbs from Birmingham, AL, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 44 cornerback in the nation and the No. 22 player in the state of Alabama.
