It appears as though the Miami Dolphins' secondary is going to be down a key contributor for at least four weeks.
Miami announced on Wednesday that they've placed CB Cam Smith on injured reserve. In a corresponding move, the team signed T Jackson Carman off the practice squad to the active roster. CB Jason Maitre was added to the practice squad.
Smith suffered a shoulder injury during the Dolphins' 30-17 loss to Green Bay on Thursday night. Smith wasn't the only Dolphins' cornerback to go down in that contest, as Kader Kohou suffered a lower back injury that he's going to have to show he's over in practice this week.
Smith has been helping to fill the void of starting cornerback Kendall Fuller, who's missed the last three games after suffering a concussion during the Dolphins' 23-16 win over the Los Angeles Rams on Monday Night Football last month. It was his second concussion of the season.
Now, at best, one of their first bench options (if Fuller can return this week) is lost until at least close to the very end of the season. Storm Duck should see his playing time increase even further moving forward. Siran Neal would also be a candidate for more playing time in the event Kohou is unable to go or is limited on Sunday.
