Former Tennessee Vols running backs coach Jerry Mack landed a new job on Sunday.

Mack, who left Tennessee to become the Jacksonville Jaguars' running backs coach, was named as the head coach at Kennesaw State on Sunday afternoon.

Mack was on Josh Heupel's staff at Tennessee from 2021 to 2023. He was replaced by De'Rail Sims earlier this year.

This isn't Mack's first head coaching job. The Memphis native was the head coach at North Carolina Central from 2014 to 2017. He left NCCU to become the offensive coordinator at Rice.

Leaving the NFL for a program that just made the jump to the FBS level may seem like an odd move for Mack, but the former Tennessee assistant was probably going to be in the market for a new job this offseason with major changes likely coming to the Jaguars' coaching staff after a rough 2024 season (Jacksonville is currently 2-10). It was a wise decision by Mack to go ahead and lock down a new job instead of waiting until January.

Kennesaw State went 2-10 this season with their lone wins coming against Liberty and FIU.
