Deion Sanders dropped a comment Tennessee fans need to hear about Georgia Tech after Buffaloes’ win over Yellow Jackets
The Tennessee Volunteers will play the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Atlanta in Week 2 of the 2026 college football season.
The Tennessee Vols are focused on their game against Furman on Saturday in Neyland Stadium.
A lot of Vols fans, though, are already thinking about Tennessee’s road matchup against Georgia Tech in Week 2.
No disrespect to Furman, but playing the Yellow Jackets in Atlanta will be Vols true freshman quarterback Faizon Brandon’s first real test.
Georgia Tech is usually a solid team under head coach Brent Key, and Bobby Dodd Stadium can get rowdy when it’s at its best.
Deion Sanders drops comment about Georgia Tech that will give Tennessee fans some confidence
Georgia Tech hosted Colorado on Thursday night.
And it was not a pretty game.
The Yellow Jackets lost 14-13 after former Vol Boo Carter blocked Georgia Tech’s game-winning field goal attempt.
Neither team was very efficient offensively, but Colorado, despite looking undersized, managed to rush for 183 yards against Georgia Tech’s defense.
“We rushed for [183], my god,” said Colorado head coach Deion Sanders. “They rushed for 51? I thought we were small?”
“They have a head coach who is a big line guy — he don’t play about the (defensive) front,” added Sanders. “So to go out there and do this when when you guys (media) were talking about the run, and that we’re a small team, which I don’t know where that came from, but I’m certainly happy with the results.”
The feeling going into the game was that Colorado wouldn’t be able to run the ball against Georgia Tech’s defensive front.
And while it’s not like the Buffaloes gashed the Yellow Jackets, they were clearly able to move the ball on the ground.
The expectation is that Tennessee will run the ball a lot early in the season with a true freshman quarterback under center. The Vols have a loaded running back room and an experienced offensive line, so the ground game should be a strength.
If an undersized Colorado team was able to run the ball effectively against Georgia Tech in Bobby Dodd Stadium, then Vols fans should feel pretty confident that Tennessee will have success on the ground against the Yellow Jackets in Week 2.
