The playoffs seem like a distant hope for the New Orleans Saints this season now. They just fell to 4-8 on the season after a narrow loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 13.
The offense had some bright spots, but a couple of red zone trips without a touchdown ultimately costed them. The defense got gashed on the ground, and the secondary had a couple of big lapses in the second half.
Saints' pick in round one
After Week 13 action, the Saints are currently picking tenth overall. They dropped one spot from before the week's action. They were picking ninth prior to the Rams game.
The loss to Los Angeles hurt their playoff chances, but the draft outlook remains fairly similar.
It will be intriguing to see which way the Saints move over the final handful of games. There is a cluster of teams close to them between pick five and fourteen, so they could sway on a weekly basis from here on out.
The Saints do have some winnable games down the stretch, including this week's game against the New York Giants. New York is currently projected to pick third overall in the upcoming draft.
All in all, we will see if the Saints jump back into playoff contention with a couple of wins in a row over the next two weeks, but New Orleans will most likely need to win out in order to have any sort of notable chance for a postseason berth.
The draft looks a lot more enticing after the latest frustrating loss for New Orleans. Darren Rizzi has infused this team with more energy, but even he has limits to how much he can lift this team from the mat when it comes to injuries and talent.
