Jaylen Waddle finally had the breakthrough game on Sunday that fans of the Miami Dolphins were waiting for in their 34-15 win over the New England Patriots on Sunday.
The blazing wideout set a season high in catches and yards with 8 for 144 with a touchdown. 6 of those catches were for at least 15 yards.
However, it was after said touchdown that Waddle really changed things up to the surprise of onlookers. Waddle opted not to go with his patented waddle celebration, going with…..well, something else instead.
Waddle, explained after the game when asked if he was retiring his usual penguin/waddle dance if he was retiring it. Waddle wasn't committing to that, but acknowledged he needed to change it up some.
"I don’t know if retiring. I don’t know. I don’t know if it’s retiring. It needs a break for a little minute."
The breakout was indeed an early birthday gift for Waddle, who turned 26 years old on Monday. It was Waddle's biggest game since the week one win against Jacksonville by a country mile. Waddle posted 5 catches for 109 against the Jaguars, with 63 of those coming on one catch. Since then, he'd posted no more than 4 catches and surpassed 50 yards receiving just once until Sunday.
Of course, fans likely won't care if Waddle does a full Broadway production in the end zone or just hands the ball to the referee if he continues to put forth performances like the one fans saw on Sunday. But there still is something about #17 and his offensive teammates waddling around the end zone that just feels right.
We'll see if they get the chance on Thanksgiving night, when Miami faces the Green Bay Packers with the entire country watching.
