The Dallas Cowboys have something special on superstar defender Micah Parsons, which hasn't been a secret for a long time. But how about DeMarvion Overshown's quick rise as one of the newest fan favorites for the fanbase?
Overshown has consistently made plays week in and week out but Thursday's performance really tied things together as he had the ultimate "I'll do it myself" moment by blowing up the running back and tipping the ball up in the air right before intercepting it and returning it for a touchdown.
In other words, he's making the NFL world notice him. For Parsons, that's something that makes him proud, as he saw what the youngster had since last year before Overshown tore an ACL, which knocked him out for the remainder of the season.
"It helps me a lot," Parsons said about Overshown. "In the end, when you’ve got someone just as lucrative as you, it makes a difference. I told y’all from the beginning he was going to be a dude. From his rookie year before the injury, I said he’d be an All-Pro, Pro Bowl type of player. I’m just happy he’s finally showing it."
With the way Overshown is playing, Cowboys defensive coordinator is weaponizing one of the most dynamic duos in the league right now. Overshown can cover, defend the run sideline to sideline and even rush the passer effectively when used as a blitzer.
"I saw it from the beginning, I said he reminded me of somebody," Parsons added. "Now, he ain’t 11 yet; that’s Agent Zero. But I think he has his own creative identity, and that’s what I like. He’s not trying to be like me. He’s his own special specimen, and he’s going to be felt on every play, you know what I’m saying?"
Cowboys fans do know exactly what Parsons mean with a message that comes off as special given what's ahead for these two playing together.
Cowboys Nation has gotten a first-row seat to Overshown's rise within the defense and knows it's only going to get better. After all, this is only the linebacker's first year of actually playing NFL football.
In a big way, Overshown has arrived to the NFL in full form. And yet, it's impossible to pretend there are no bigger things ahead of him given what we've already seen. He's just getting started.
And paired with Parsons? The Cowboys have something special in their front seven.
"He’s a wildcat out there on the field, but man, I love playing next to him," Parsons said.
