It's pretty rare that an NFL team manages to play against the same player two weeks in a row, but with the Seahawks' latest trade, the Buffalo Bills look like they might have an opportunity to do exactly that.
Seattle has made a trade with the Tennessee Titans, sending them linebacker Jerome Baker and a fourth round pick to acquire linebacker Ernest Jones IV. Jones is fresh off a game against the Bills that saw him register five total tackles and a quarterback hit on Josh Allen.
Jones spent his first three seasons in the NFL with the Los Angeles Rams before being traded to the Titans this August. Last year, Jones totaled 145 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, and six quarterback hits. He was one of the better linebackers in the league.
Tennessee seems to quickly be pulling the plug on this season, moving Jones just hours after the news of DeAndre Hopkins being trade to the Kansas City Chiefs broke.
Jones is a run-stuffing linebacker that's a sure tackler. Seattle, likely smelling blood in the water with their division-rival San Francisco 49ers reeling with injuries, is aiming to take control of their division and shore up one of their biggest issues — run defense.
To date, the Seahawks have allowed 5.0 yards per carry, which ranks 28th in the NFL. Teams have attacked them on the ground with over 29 rush attempts per game to the tune of 146.1 rushing yards per game.
Buffalo exploited Tennessee's secondary last week, but the ground attack only totaled 74 rushing yards on 3.7 yards per carry, with Jones being a big reason for that. Seattle certainly poses a tougher challenge for the Bills' offense, and they'll need to stay in phase and not get behind the chains against a very strong and talented secondary.
