The LSU Tigers are sitting in a good spot heading into their big game against Texas A&M on Saturday. They are 6-1 and primed to make a run at the College Football Playoff with their only blemish being a week one loss to USC on a neutral field.
One of the biggest aspects of the Tigers has been the improvement of their defense. In the last three games, the Tigers have allowed just 46 points, including 26 of them to one of the best offenses in the country in Ole Miss. Defensive coordinator Blake Baker has done a good job with using the personnel the Tigers have in creative ways.
Head coach Brian Kelly was asked about their defensive front and using three edge rushers and had some great things to say about redshirt senior defensive lineman Paris Shand.
"Yeah, so Paris is a bit of a tweener, right? He's 286 pounds. He's a little bit light in terms of the modern, you know, inside guy, but he makes up with it with, you know, really good technique. He's got, you know, good hands. He can he's very strong. So even though a little bit undersized, he can give us, you know, 20 really good reps inside, and then we can move them by. So look, we don't want to play 60 snaps inside with them. We need a little bit more size in there, but he can definitely give us, you know, 15 to 20 really sound snaps inside."
Being able to have a guy like Shand gives you a lot of flexibility and the ability to confuse their opponents in major pressure looks. Having that could prove to be really important when they face Conner Weigman on Saturday.
