Michigan and Sherrone Moore have done it again. Less than 24 hours after flipping top notch edge defender Benny Patterson from Cincinnati the Wolverines have stolen another key recruit. Michigan now has 18 total high school players coming in as a part of the 2025 recruiting class and have moved into the top ten rankings overall for next spring among all FBS teams according to On3 Sports.

Elite four star cornerback Shamari Earls announced that he would be flipping his commitment from Kirby Smart and Georgia late on Friday. This of course was huge news for Michigan recruiting as Sherrone Moore continues his dominance this cycle.

The Wolverines had already just recently added five star offensive tackle Andrew Babalola two weeks ago, a speedy wide receiver in Jaylen Pile days before that, and flipped edge defender Benny Patterson on Friday. The Michigan recruiting machine cannot be stopped.

Shamari Earls was committed to South Carolina until this summer when he took his official visit to Georgia in June. However, since then Georgia's cornerbacks have looked far from perfect this season and Earls just recently took an official visit to Michigan last weekend. That visit reportedly went well, so it was certainly considered possible that Earls might flip, but to actually officially steal a top cornerback from Georgia is quite the tall task, typically.

Shamari Earls has proven himself to be one of the most impressive athletes in all of high school football over the last two seasons. He's of course an elite cornerback, but he's also averaging nearly 25 yards per reception this fall on offense and returning some kicks too, using every bit of his athleticism to help his team win.

Earls has shown he can succeed at outside corner (his most likely role at Michigan), in the slot, and even playing deep safety roles on defense. That versatility mixed in with his clear top tier FBS athleticism has made him one of the most highly coveted recruits in the nation.

With future first round pick cornerback Will Johnson almost certainly departing for the NFL, Michigan is going to need their next truly special cornerback to step up. Aamir Hall and Zeke Berry have been flat out terrible at cornerback for Michigan this year, so regardless of what happens with them this off-season their starting reps likely won't be guaranteed for 2025.

The good news is that Shamari Earls and fellow four star cornerback Ivan Tayler (who committed to Michigan this summer) look more than ready to step in and contribute immediately for the Wolverines. Earls is looking like he could be the cherry on top of an already impressive recruiting class for head coach Sherrone Moore. Hopefully this newfound recruiting momentum carries throughout the rest of November as the Early Signing Period (December 4-6) is just barely a month away now for high school recruits.
